Complex Decision-Making at Periviable Gestations

Dr. Úrsula Guillén has dedicated her research career to advancing open values-based communication for parents facing decisions surrounding periviable deliveries. In this talk she will highlight methodological deficiencies in the literature, that preclude adequate certainty of outcomes. She will discuss methods to facilitate shared decision-making and the iterative development of decision aids for periviability counseling.

Meet the Speaker
Úrsula Guillén, MD, is an attending neonatologist at ChristianaCare. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Dr. Guillén graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in pediatrics at Yale/New Haven Children’s Hospital and neonatal/perinatal medicine fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Guillén has earned a national reputation for excellence based on her research on counseling families facing an extremely premature delivery. She has received grant funding for her research, published in high-impact journals, and has been an invited speaker at national meetings.
