Workflow analysis is one of the early steps in designing and implementing various systematic health information technology interventions. However, various methodological, theoretical and practical challenges exist for efficient, pragmatic and rigorous workflow analysis. This talk will start with acknowledging some of these challenges and then present some strategies to overcome these challenges. Dr. Ozkaynak will provide workflow analysis examples from various health settings including emergency departments, nursing homes and daily living settings. He will conclude the presentation with future trends for workflow analysis in various health settings.
Meet the Speaker

Dr. Mustafa Ozkaynak is an associate professor in University of Colorado Denver College of Nursing. He earned his MS and PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. His research interests include work systems in clinical and non-clinical health settings and the organizational and social consequences of health information technologies. His research has been supported by Agency for Healthcare Research and Safety, NIH and Center for Disease Control. He teaches courses on clinical decision support systems, system development life cycle, foundation of health informatics, knowledge management and quantitative methods.
