“Introduction to Mediation Analysis”

Mediation is the process by which one variable transmits an effect onto another through one or more mediating variables. Mediation analysis tests a hypothetical causal chain where one variable X affects a mediator variable M and, in turn, that the mediator variable M affects a third (often outcome) variable Y. Mediators describe the how or why of a (typically well-established) relationship between two other variables and are sometimes called intermediary variables since they often describe the process through which an effect occurs, which is called an indirect effect.  This talk will explain what a mediation analysis is, show how to work with data for mediation analysis, run the necessary statistical procedures and test, and address how to interpret the results from mediation analysis.
