This course provides an overview of the basics of Teach-Back, an evidence-based method used to communicate medical information clearly and ensure understanding. Teach-Back is endorsed as a national standard of care by many influential medical organizations including The Joint Commission. Yet, studies show only 11-22% of providers use it.

This course will help health care professionals confidently begin using Teach-Back in daily practice by reviewing the rationale and foundational elements of the technique. It will be helpful for anyone looking to improve their communication skills, especially with patients, families, and the community.

Ensuring patient understanding is crucial to positive outcomes and thus will serve to facilitate the provision of safe, quality care.  Getting started with Teach-Back is a great way to make sure that you and your patients have a shared understanding of their health and treatment plan.
